Nobel Peace Prize Winner Lech Walesa Visits Mazda
OREANDA-NEWS. Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa visited Mazda Motor Corporation headquarters on March 19 and met with company executives including Representative Director and Vice Chairman of the Board, Seita Kanai, and Representative Director, President and CEO, Masamichi Kogai.
Mazda has partnered with the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, an annual event at which past Nobel Peace Prize winners gather to discuss world peace, since the 13th summit held in Warsaw, Poland in 2013. Based in Hiroshima, the city of peace, and defined by an enduring spirit of challenge, Mazda empathizes with the attitudes of Nobel Peace laureates who have built a better world through a variety of peace-making endeavors, often defying convention and common sense in the process. It is for this reason that Mazda decided to support the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, which debates a broad range of topics related to world peace. As a Nobel Peace Prize recipient and member of the summit, Walesa made the trip to Japan in order to visit the summit's leading partner, Mazda.
Speaking to Mazda executives, Walesa said, "In order to make things better in the world, leaders have never given up in the face of difficult challenges and conventional thinking. Mazda shares this passion, and I am very happy to be working together with this company as partners."
Mazda's Vice Chairman of the Board, Seita Kanai said, "It is a great honor to have Mr. Walesa come all the way to Hiroshima to visit us. Through this partnership, Mazda hopes to recognize the efforts of those who challenge convention to make the world a better place."
Walesa arrived in Japan on March 18 and laid flowers at the Memorial Cenotaph for victims of the atomic bomb located in Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park. He will also meet with leaders of Hiroshima, the city of peace, such as Hiroshima Prefectural Governor, Hidehiko Yuzaki, and Hiroshima City Mayor, Kazumi Matsui.
