OREANDA-NEWS. March 20, 2014. TatNIPIneft of JSC TATNEFT has published a new monograph on formation hydraulic fracturing. The work is of interest for oil and gas managers and professionals, researchers, university professors as well as for postgraduates and students.

The authors of the monograph "Hydraulic fracturing of carbonate reservoirs" are V.G. Salimov, N.G. Ibragimov, A.V. Nasybullin, O.V. Salimov offer the results of their own research and summarize the international experience previously available for Russian readers in English only.
The value of the book lies in the fact that there is practically no literature in the Russian language on the theory and technology of modern hydraulic fracturing, except for one translated publication ("Uniform design fracturing: from theory to practice" written by Economides, Olin and Valko ).

It's worth noting that JSC TATNEFT is one of the few oil companies in Russia that performs hydraulic fracturing using its own resources and also carries out research activities in this area. The subject of hydraulic fracturing is being successfully developed in TatNIPIneft. The results achieved allowed expanding the range of studies and in 2013 there was a hydraulic fracturing laboratory organized. The laboratory research area is hydraulic fracturing simulation, technology development and processes follow-up at the wells. Currently the work is underway on multistage fracturing in horizontal wells and the problems of geomechanics and geostatistics are being actively studied as applied to hydraulic fracturing.

The new monograph presents the theory and practice of well modeling and stimulation through application of hydraulic fracturing. The work covers approaches and technical tools developed at JSC TATNEFT, TatNIPIneft Institute and OOO "Tatneft-LeninogorskRemServis", as well as the equipment of foreign service companies.

The book authors used both experimental studies data and the process modeling with application of the Mayer program. This program is part of the Stewart & Stevenson's standard fracturing equipment supply package and is most common in Russia.

The monograph presents all the aspects of hydraulic fracturing: results of experimental studies of the carbonate rock parameters performed by TatNIPIneft Institute with discussing the methods for determining parameters through application of minifracs, methods for determining the stress state in the crust, methods of the automated wells selection for hydraulic fracturing developed at TatNIPIneft Institute. The book also covers   the unified engineering design of the fracturing technology, special aspects of hydraulic fracturing in the wells with a negative skin factor, hydraulic fracturing impact on development of extra-viscous oil deposits, performance of multi-stage fracturing in horizontal wells, as well as economic aspects of the process. The book offers some examples demonstrating the methods of possible problems solution and improvement of the treatment effectiveness.

This is already the second monograph published by the TatNIPIneft Institute specialists. The first one "Design of formation hydraulic fracturing in the Mayer system" was published in 2008 by the publishing house of JSC VNIIOENG and was highly appreciated by hydraulic fracturing experts.

Publishing of the monograph has been timed to the 70th birth anniversary of Vyacheslav Gaynanovich Salimov, candidate of geological/mineralogical sciences and associate professor, who has made a significant contribution at TatNIPIneft since 2003 to developing the theory and modeling of the formation the hydraulic fracturing.
