DFW Airport Recognized for Employee Wellness Program Success
OREANDA-NEWS. DFW Airport has earned two major honors for its successful LiveWell employee wellness program. The Airport was named as one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America by Healthiest Employers, a technology and data research company focused on corporate wellness. DFW also earned recognition as a Well Workplace for 2014 from the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving workplace wellness in America.
“We're proud to be recognized for the work we do to provide a supportive and healthy work environment, but the most meaningful achievement is the improving wellness of our team,” said Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport. “By making health a business priority, DFW has created stronger relationships with our employees and a sustainable model for the future of the Airport.”
The Airport earned the recognitions for its comprehensive LiveWell employee wellness program, which includes educational programs on health, diet, workplace safety, and disease management. Under the direction of DFW's Risk Management Department, the LiveWell program also rewards employees with incentives for exercising, getting routine health screenings and enrolling in workshops focused on wellness. DFW employees also have access to the Airport's LiveWell Center, which offers workout facilities, workshops and seminars, as well as a full-service health clinic.
“Our employees have taken ownership of their health through LiveWell and fostered a culture of positive wellbeing behavior throughout our organization,” said Norma Carabajal Essary, DFW Airport's vice president for Risk Management. “Our greatest asset is definitely our people, and we are very pleased to have made an impact in improving their lives.”
The LiveWell Program has prompted a positive change in the overall wellness of DFW Airport employees since its inception in 2008. DFW has seen improvements in employee attendance and reductions in health care costs and workers compensation claims.
For the Healthiest Employers Award, DFW Airport ranked sixty-fourth among the top 100 healthiest workplaces in America and is one of only ten employers selected from Texas. Healthiest Employers uses six categories to measure wellness, namely culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions and reporting and analysis.
The Well Workplace designation from WELCOA recognizes quality and excellence in worksite health promotion, and recognizes organizations fully embracing their responsibility for maximizing the health and wellbeing of employees.
