OREANDA-NEWS.  March 19, 2014. International economic forum "CIS and new formats of cooperation" was held in Moscow.

Board meeting of the CIS Council of Tourism was held during the forum. The Republic of Belarus was elected the Chairman in 2014.

As is known 2014 was declared the Year of Tourism in the CIS.

Issues of holding events in 2014 dedicated to the "Year of Tourism in the Commonwealth of Independent States" and implementation of the development strategy of the CIS countries collaboration in the field of tourism for the period up to 2020 approved by the Board of Heads of CIS Governments on 20 November 2013 were discussed at the meeting and roundtable. TV station "Mir" that reports the work of the CIS Executive Committee intends to create a section devoted to the Year of Tourism.

As Chairman of the Committee of Tourism Industry Marat Igaliyev noted: "Kazakhstan will chair the CIS Tourism Council in 2015. Kazakh side has included 20 paragraphs in the action plan for the Year of Tourism. Almost all the regions of the country supported the initiative and presented their activities".

For reference: CIS Tourism Council was established in 1994. It is composed of representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The Council is engaged in formulating a common strategy for tourism development in the CIS countries, harmonization of the basic directions of the tourism policy’s implementation.
