OREANDA-NEWS. NPO Saturn was granted an EASA maintenance organization approval certificate enabling the company to perform maintenance tasks on the SaM146 engines.

On March 6, 2014 the NPO Saturn maintenance organization was certified by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The signed certificate attests compliance of NPO Saturn with the requirements of the European airworthiness regulations (Part 145) imposed by EASA to organizations performing maintenance related to aeronautical engineering.

According to Sergey Antropov, NPO Saturn quality director, “receiving an EASA maintenance organization approval certificate is a ground-breaking event for our company. Since 2010 NPO Saturn has gone a long and rather painstaking way of certifying serial production and maintenance of the SaM146 commercial aircraft engines to demonstrate full compliance with all the effective Russian and European airworthiness rules. The NPO Saturn quality assurance system was certified in Russia by IAC AR and FAVT and by EASA in Europe. This serves as a worthwhile example of what the Russian aerospace industry specialists are capable of achieving.”

Ilya Fedorov, NPO Saturn CEO noted that “the EASA certificate allows us to substantially expand the geographical scope of our maintenance services rendered on the SaM146 engines which power the Russian SSJ100 aircraft. To date NPO Saturn is the first, and so far the only company in Russia holding a full portfolio of Russian and European certificates enabling the company to serially produce and perform MRO tasks on commercial aircraft engines. This success of NPO Saturn translates into the ultimate success of Russia's entire aviation industry.”

The NPO Saturn Research and Production Association (OJSC) is an engine-building company specialized in the design and development, production and after-market support of gas turbine engines for military and civil aviation, naval ships and power-generating plants and gas-pumping units.
