Toyota Tsusho and Kenya Have First Agreement
OREANDA-NEWS. Toyota Tsusho Corporation announces that it has received a letter of intent from the Republic of Kenya authorizing Toyota Tsusho to conduct a business feasibility study on the domestic manufacture of synthetic fertilizer.
Kenya is one of Africa's leading agricultural nations. In the future, both its agricultural production and fertilizer demand are expected to grow.
Currently, Kenya relies on imports for 100% of its fertilizer supply, and consequently the development of a domestic fertilizer business is a long-term national goal. Toyota Tsusho will tackle a variety of issues to realize the development of a domestic fertilizer manufacturing industry and support the growth of the nation's entire agricultural economy. The first step will be the business feasibility study, which is scheduled to be completed in June 2014.
On August 15, 2012, Toyota Tsusho became the first Japanese company to sign a comprehensive MOU with Kenya to support the achievement of Kenya's national vision, "VISION 2030." Toyota Tsusho is pursuing the fertilizer manufacturing initiative as one of the VISION projects.
Toyota Tsusho will continue to actively support the fertilizer project and the Kenyan government's VISION 2030, while investing in a wide range of initiatives to contribute to the country's development.
