NPO Saturn Employees Awarded Russian Government prize
OREANDA-NEWS. By the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 20 February 2014 No. 230-р, the 2013 Russian Government prize in the field of science and engineering in the nomination “Winner of the Russian Government prize in the filed of science and engineering” was awarded to the following employees of NPO Saturn:
- Vladimir Krylov, candidate of technical sciences, NPO Saturn deputy CEO in charge of the “Tooling plant” project; work coordinator;
- Valentina Mitrofanova, design engineer;
- Vladimir Stogov, production director;
- Egor Tsvetkov, candidate of technical sciences, head of a bureau.
This team of authors submitted its collective work titled “The process of automated comprehensive machining of a gas turbine engine blades using the method of high-efficiency grinding, multi-purpose grinding machines and highly-structural abrasive work tools” to the 2013 Russian Government prize competition in the field of science and engineering. The outcome of that effort materialized in the creation of a dedicated blades machining area on the premises of NPO Saturn achieving a unique turbine blades machining cycle through deep grinding.
Apart from NPO Saturn's contribution to the development of a production process, equipment and dedicated tools for producing complex-profile parts and creating a high-tech, integrated aircraft gas turbine engine turbine blades machining area, the effort of the following companies was also recognized: P.A. Solovyev Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University, STANKOVENDT, Volzhskiy abrasive plant and the New processes and tools R&D center of the Moscow State Technological University STANKIN.
It was not the first time that the NPO Saturn team had received a Russian Government prize. In particular, a team of NPO Saturn authors had previously received the 2008 Russian Federation Government prize in the field of science and engineering for the development and putting into operation of the new generation and processes of vacuum welding increasing the quality level of gas turbine engines.
The timely mastering of new production processes for the produced parts and the production engineering to accommodate the needs of serial production of the company's products are the prerequisites for dynamic growth of a company specialized in design and manufacturing.
Over the past years NPO Saturn has implemented a set of actions aimed at the technological upgrade of its production facilities. New production shops have been put into operation dedicated to compressor blades machining, turbine blades machining using exclusively breakthrough production processes and state-of-the-art equipment which has allowed to debottleneck the company's productivity. NPO Saturn is constantly introducing new-generation metal-cutting tools produced by both the world's prominent tooling manufacturers and local producers including its own subsidiaries. At that, the level of maturity of such processes mastered by NPO Saturn as deep grinding, electrical discharge machining, electrochemical machining, high-efficiency turning using high-pressure technology, multi-axe milling based on the results of practical experiments and research studies due to the existence of its own design and manufacturing school is objectively high and comparable to the world-class analogs in many aspects.
