Munich Airport Hotel Receives New Operating Company
OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2014. As of January 1, 2015, the airport hotel immediately adjacent to Terminal 2, which opened in May 1994, will be operated by Hilton Worldwide under its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand.
The 20-year contract with the Kempinski hotel group will expire on December 31 of this year. Until the handover, the 389-room five-star facility will continue to be managed under the familiar name, "Kempinski Hotel Airport Munchen". "I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Hotel Kempinski and its staff for the excellent services they have provided to travellers over the past two decades," said Dr. Michael Kerkloh, the President and CEO of FMG, the Munich Airport operating company.
In the transition, the new operating company, Hilton Worldwide, will offer positions to the hotel staff, who now number approximately 250. The hotel is set to increase its capacity through the construction of a 160-room addition, due for completion in 2017, and is also scheduled to undergo renovations.
FMG decided on the new operating company after a thorough selection process with the support of an external consultancy, the Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels & Hospitality Group. "After a detailed review of all offers, we selected the most compelling option, and are now looking forward to working with Hilton Worldwide. Through the commitment of this renowned hotel group, which has successfully operated numerous hotels at airports all over the world for many years, the high standard of hospitality at Munich Airport will be maintained in the long term." FMG and Hilton Worldwide will officially sign their cooperation agreement next Thursday, March 6, at the ITB in Berlin.
