OREANDA-NEWS. Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. today announces the launch of registration for the 2014 Power of Clothing Project, a donation drive for used UNIQLO clothing across schools in Japan, for refugees and others in need, as part of its All-Product Recycling Initiative. Registration is welcomed through the dedicated website beginning February 28, with around 200 schools expected to take part.

The Power of Clothing Project partners with schools, to deepen understanding of social issues, and promote the All-Product Recycling Initiative - launched by Fast Retailing in 2006. Children are encouraged to donate UNIQLO clothing they no longer wear, for refugees and others in need. UNIQLO employees visit the schools to introduce the initiative, after which the students organize their donation drive. When the donated apparel is delivered to the recipients, the participating schools receive a photo report of the results.

In 2013, a total of 107 schools across 34 prefectures throughout Japan participated, with UNIQLO representatives presenting to around 15,000 students. Teachers noted that the quiz approach taken by the presenters made learning fun, and got the children thinking about what they can do to help, while the children said that they came to realize how powerful clothing can be, and expressed hope that refugees and others benefit from the donations.
