Maithon Power Certified for Health and Safety Management System
OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, one of India's largest integrated power companies, has remained committed to undertaking innovative energy conservation initiatives, focusing on innovative technology and giving high priority to the health and safety of its workforce. Recognising these efforts, Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS) certified Maithon Power (MPL) for successful implementation of ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007.
MPL, the 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), has implemented a 2 x 525MW, coal-fired power project in Jharkhand. It is the first successful public-private partnership project in green field generation in the country.
MPL has successfully completed three internal system audits and two external audits conducted by IRQS, including the certification audit which concluded in December 2013. The Integrated Management System policy was signed on March 4, 2013. In less than one year, the MPL team successfully integrated the quality management system, environment management system, occupation health and safety management system and completed the certification audit.
Speaking on the accomplishment, Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, MPL, said, “It is a remarkable achievement for us to receive the IRQS certification for quality and environmental and occupational health and safety management practices.”
“We are confident that the ISO systems will help us in institutionalising all processes and we will continue to strive for continuous enhancement of the project. The zeal and passion of the team members is a source of encouragement in our journey towards continuous improvement,” said Sabyasachi Mukherjee, station head, MPL.
Maithon Power Project is located at Maithon in the state of Jharkhand, with a total capacity of 1,050MW. In addition to supplying power to DVC, power from the Maithon Project is being exported to power-deficit northern states.
