TGC-1 Discusses Readiness of Stations to Spring Floods
OREANDA-NEWS. JSC TGC-1 held its annual meeting of the Commission on the Prevention and Emergency Response and Fire Safety. It was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations, St. Petersburg Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring and the heads of JSC TGC-1.
The commission's task was to discuss the readiness of stations to spring floods as well as prevention of negative consequences.
As of February 20, there is snow on the Karelian Isthmus, in the basins of the tributaries of the Neva River, east of Leningrad and Novgorod regions, - said Maria Bogdan , Head of forecasts St. Petersburg Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. - Snow storage this spring is 2-3 times lower than last year and are 20-40 % of normal. The central and eastern Karelia - 50-90 % of normal. Average temperature in March is expected to be 2-4 degrees above normal, near normal rainfall is expected.
Due to the weather conditions JSC TGC-1 started to prepare for floods almost a month earlier than in 2013. Experts conduct continuous monitoring of the hydraulic structures (GTS) and the passage of flood conditions.
First large-scale exercises will be March 27, 2014 at Narva HPP JSC TGC-1.
