Tata Power's Jojobera Power Plant Demonstrates Operational Excellence
OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, has always been steadfast in its commitment towards various aspects of resource conservation and energy efficiency. In line with this philosophy, Tata Power announced the dispatch of the 100th rake of fly ash through railway rakes, leading to the grand total of 2,60,000 tonnes of fly ash dispatched till date. The centenary rake was flagged off by DS Kudalkar, head, Jojobera station.
Tata Power has organised various initiatives and conducted numerous educational workshops on the utilisation of fly ash from thermal coal based plants for construction. For efficient management of fly ash around the plant, Tata Power installed an automatic ash bagging machine in July 2013. This machine keeps a control on the quantity and quality of the bagging process, and ensures the free supply of fly ash to the cement plants in Meghalaya, Assam, Jharkhand, and export of the same to Bangladesh and Nepal. The railway platform which provides a permanent infrastructure for ash rack loading supports in avoiding accidental derailment, reduces demurrage charge and the time taken in placement of wagons from one track to another.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kudalkar stated, “At Tata Power, our commitment to sustainability is paramount and the utilisation of fly ash is a testimony to the same. We are utilising the waste generated for our own use in an environment-friendly manner and are also sensitising people on optimum utilisation of waste material while adhering to the MoEF norms and regulations on fly ash. It is our constant endeavour to go beyond the requirements of compliances and ensure judicious use of natural resources while looking forward to 100 percent fly ash utilisation”.
The company constructed a platform at the railway line within the premises of the Jojobera power station for storing raw materials like coal as well as unloading and rack loading for ash bags dispatching in March 2013. Committed to sustainable development, Tata Power also manufactures fly ash bricks with the help of eco-friendly technology.
