OREANDA-NEWS. Belarusian Railway continues its work on improving the corporate website. For your convenience, the English version www.rw.by/en <http://www.rw.by/en> has been introduced.

In February, such sections of the site as Passenger Services, Freight, Corporate and Timetable (city lines and regional economy class lines schedule) became available in English. An important stage of this project consisted of the development of a reference guide of Belarusian railway stations and stopping points (halts) in accordance with the “Guidelines for the transliteration of geographical names of the Republic of Belarus with the Latin alphabet”, as approved by the State Committee for Land Resources, Geodesy and Cartography of Belarus. Names of BCh stations and stopping points were not simply translated into English, but a full transliteration(a literal conversion of a word from one script to another) from the Belarusian orthography into the Latin alphabet was made. Formed in this way, the reference guide of railway stations and stopping points of the Belarusian Railway was examined by the Republican toponymic commission affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The ticketing system poezd.rw.by will be available in English from March 2014.

In the second quarter of 2014, it is planned to launch the automated system “Current timetable of city lines, regional, interregional and international trains on the corporate website of the Belarusian Railway”. This system will cover all wishes of users regarding this topic and will provide new and unique possibilities such as: intelligent search of station names while taking into account the variant spellings, selection of a station from the electronic network of the Belarusian Railway, generating advanced queries, automatic generation of routes with change and many others. This automated system will be available in three languages - Russian, Belarusian and English.
