Ghana's Energy Minister in China to Woo Investors
OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2014. Ghana's minister for energy and petroleum Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is on an official visit to China to woo more investors into the country's energy sector.
The minister is also scheduled to visit some power facilities where he will meet and interact with some big players in the energy industry in China. They include the powerful Shanghai Electric Power Generating Group and Shenzhen Energy, parent company of Suno-Asogli power in Ghana.
The minister, who left Accra on Saturday, will tour facilities of both the Shanghai Electric Power Group and Shenzhen Energy and hold discussions with officials of the two companies on the possibility of expanding their plants in Ghana, according to a statement sent from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
Other facilities to be toured by the minister are East Power Plant and LNG facilities in Shanghai-Shenzhen, the Heyuan Power Plant in the Heyuan City of the Guangdong province.
Furthermore, Buah, who is accompanied by some officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), will hold discussions with Hunan Electric on the proposed 500 megawatts plant in Ghana and pay a visit to the Sino Hydro Group Ltd.
"The construction of a coal-fired power plant in Ghana is also high on the agenda at the meeting with Shenzhen Energy," the statement said.
