OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2014. Saudi Aramco’s Refinery Lab in Ras Tanura recently achieved the status of Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001.

This is the highest degree of safety accreditation that can be obtained in an industrial facility.

The top designation was awarded after a detailed evaluation of Ras Tanura Refinery (RTR) Lab processes and workforce competencies by the British Standards Institute, the international certification body.

OHSAS 18001:2007, considered the highest OH&S related standard for occupational health and safety management, is intended to help organizations to control occupational health and safety risks.

The international certification is valid for three years. RTR Lab division head Yaser R. Sonbul said the newly established standard demonstrates "the company’s constant efforts in improving the safety of our workplace environment and employees, as well as their health".

RTR Lab’s commitment to occupational health and safety is previously exhibited with the designations of ISO 9001 in 2001 and ISO 17025 in 2006. It became the first facility in Saudi Aramco and the Middle East to achieve such status.
