VSMPO Provides Titanium for New Вombardier Aerospaсe Programs
OREANDA-NEWS. On February 12, representatives of Bombardier Aerospace (Belfast, Northern Ireland) finished their working visit to VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation in Verkhnyaya Salda. In course of this visit some business meetings took place. During the meetings some issues were discussed concerning the production of titanium forgings and parts after semifinish machining at VSMPO for a wing of new CSeries aircraft.
In 2010, Bombardier Aerospace and VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation signed a long-term agreement for supply of parts made of titanium alloys after semifinish machining. This LTA will remain in effect until 2020.
While Bombardier CSeries programs were at the stage of development and certification, VSMPO supplied to Bombardier parts after semifinish machining, made of forgings.
As a next stage of cooperation in Bombardier CSeries project, VSMPO starts developing production of wing parts from complex-shape forgings. Before starting the production of parts from forgings, companies shall settle some technical and organizational issues.
Bombardier CSeries is a family of narrow-body, twin-engine, medium-range jet airliners. Currently, representatives of this family are the only airliners of this size with wings made of composite materials. Much more titanium parts are used in the composite wing structure in comparison with usual wing structure of aluminum alloy. Bombardier CS100 took its first flight in September 2013.
The supplies of CSeries airliners to the airlines will start in 2015.
