Vice PM Discusses Construction of New Airport Terminal in Odesa
OREANDA-NEWS. February 18, 2014. The leadership of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Odesa City Council and the international airport "Odesa" reported vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul about the pace of the construction of a new airport passenger terminal and a runway.
"Reconstruction of the airport in Odesa within preparation for the hosting European Basketball Championship will facilitate the development of the city, improve the quality of passenger service and strengthen the logistics capacity of the region. Odesa airport has become a modern southern gateway of Ukraine," Olexandr Vilkul said.
In the framework of preparation for Eurobasket 2015, the investor - "International Airport Odessa" - to build a modern terminal and the state to build a runway.
As of today, the construction readiness of the terminal is 19%. The new terminal will serve passengers of international and domestic flights. Due to the construction of new terminal the airport capacity will be increased by 2.5 times from 1 million passengers to 2.5 million passengers per year. Estimated construction cost of the terminal is USD 84 million.
The next stage of the development of the Odessa airport will be the construction by the state expense of new runway length of 2800 meters.
The new runway will increase safety and allow to take more heavy types of aircrafts including Boeing -767.
According to the results of the meeting Olexandr Vilkul set a number of tasks. In particular, to ensure fulfillment of the measures included in the plan of the airport reconstruction, He also instructed the Ministry of Finance to submit to the Government an order of the involvement of the credit in 2014 under the state guarantees for the construction of the runway.
