OREANDA-NEWS. February 14, 2014. The 2014 Investment Programme at Russian Railways provides for the purchase of 629 new locomotives, consisting of 352 electric and 277 diesel locomotives, at a total cost of 76,1 billion roubles.

It is expected that the fleet will be supplemented by:

direct current electric freight locomotives with the 2ES10 Granite asynchronous traction drive (40 units),

alternating current electric freight locomotives with the 2ES5 asynchronous traction drive (5 units),

alternating current electric freight locomotives 2ES5K (8 units),

direct current electric freight locomotives 2ES6 Sinara (110 units),

alternating current electric freight locomotives 3ES5K Yermak (121 units),

direct current electric freight locomotives 3ES4K (1 unit),

2TE116U diesel freight locomotives (74 units),

diesel freight locomotives with 2TE25A Vityaz asynchronous traction drive (8 units) and 2TE25AM with MTU diesel (7 units),

3TE116Y (24 units),

2TE116UD with diesel by General Electric (40 units)

main line gas turbine locomotive GT1h running on liquefied natural gas (1 unit).

It is also planned to purchase:

12 EP20 dual-voltage electric passenger locomotives,

50 EP2K direct current passenger electric locomotives,

5 passenger alternating current electric locomotives EP1M,

30 TEP70BS diesel passenger locomotives.

Also, the fleet of shunting locomotives will be supplemented by:

40 TEM18DM diesel locomotives,

20 TEM18V diesel locomotives with diesel engines made by the Finnish company Wartsila,

23 TEM7A diesel locomotives

8 TG16M diesel locomotives,

TEM9N diesel locomotives with a hybrid power plant (1 unit) and TEM19 with a gas reciprocating engine (1 unit).

In 2013, Russian Railways purchased 804 locomotives at a total cost of 83.5 billion roubles.

The Company's fleet currently consists of more than 20,000 locomotives.
