OREANDA-NEWS. February 12, 2014. The Chicago Department of Aviation announces that Runway 10C-28C at O'Hare International Airport received a 2014 "Honor Award" from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL).

The award presentation was held today at the 2014 ACEC-IL Winter Conference in Normal, Illinois. Representatives from the CDA and the O'Hare Airfield Engineers Joint Venture (comprised of AECOM, Jacobs, Milhouse Engineering & Construction and Delta Engineering Group) were in attendance to accept the award.

The ACEC-IL annual awards luncheon is billed as the "Oscars of the Illinois Engineering Community". It recognizes Illinois' top engineering projects in the categories of Studies, Research and Consulting; Building/Technology Systems; Structural Systems; Transportation; and Special Projects. Runway 10C-28C and its associated taxiways received the award in the transportation category.

"On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Department of Aviation, I want to thank ACEC for presenting Runway 10C-28C with an Honor award," said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. "This new runway was delivered on-time and within budget by a dedicated group of designers, engineers and laborers."

Runway 10C-28C is a component of the O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP). Construction of the runway and 19 enabling projects began in 2006 and was completed in 2013. Runway 10C-28C is the fourth major runway component commissioned under the OMP since 2008.

The ACEC-IL award for Runway 10C-28C comes on the heels of another award the project received last week from the Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO).

ACEC-Illinois is a statewide business association of over two hundred consulting engineering firms that together employ over ten-thousand engineers, architects, land surveyors, scientists and support personnel. Member firms contract with public and private sector clients designing bridges, buildings, environmental systems, roadways, water supply, waste treatment facilities and complex mechanical and electrical systems.
