OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2014. Tarmo Mutso, the head of the Estonian Tourist Board, has said that there is room for more hotels in the Tallinn hospitality market as capacity has plateaued since 2009.

He told uudised.err.ee today that although many large hotel chains are looking at setting up in Tallinn, most are still in the market analysis stage.

“Only the Hilton hotel, which is being constructed on the site of the Reval Park & Casino with 202 rooms [...], to be opened in 2016, and the 93-room hotel Estoria, which will be opened this year, are certain,” Mutso said, noting that those are not much of a development as there are 6,300 rooms in the city during peak season.

“Outside of the capital, Parnu and Narva-Joesuu will see new hotels opening soon,” he said, adding that many spas around the country have begun to invest into accommodation.

He said that the state hopes to increase tourism to five million overnight stays per year by 2020, which would a 31 percent growth compared with 2012, and adding new rooms in Tallinn and Parnu is seen as the base for that growth

The Sheraton chain's parent company recently registered its trademarks in Estonia, and French company Accor, which runs the Adagio and Ibris hotels, has also looked into setting up an operation in Tallinn.
