OREANDA-NEWS.  February 11, 2014. PwC has been working with the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee for over five years. During this time, over 200 projects have been carried out as part of the planning, preparation and staging of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi.

Robert Gruman, PwC Russia Advisory Leader and Global Relationship Partner for the Olympic Movement, commented:

“PwC has extensive experience in advising the organisers of sports mega-events.  Past sporting events in relation to which PwC has carried our professional services projects include the Olympic Games in Beijing and Vancouver, as well as the World University Games (Universiade) in Shenzhen and Kazan. We are proud that this year, which marks PwC’s 25th year in Russia, we are taking part in this nationally significant project.”

Evgeny Otnelchenko, PwC Russia Advisory Partner and head of PwC’s Sochi 2014 Programme, comments:

“Many of the projects that we have implemented with the Organizing Committee have proven to be innovative for these types of events. One of our key decisions was to introduce the concept of a project-based organisation as the basis for the Organizing Committee’s activities at every stage. In addition, we have applied a new integrated, client-oriented approach to preparations for the Games, which focuses on each group of people and organisation directly or indirectly involved in the Games. This has enabled us to optimise the Organizing Committee’s resources while also helping to guarantee that the needs and expectations of various client groups are met during the Games themselves.”

The PwC project team has been deeply involved in drafting the strategic and tactical plans for Games preparations. The plan for Games preparations includes over 6,500 elements. Our people have assisted in planning and holding over 70 test events for all Olympic and Paralympic sports and disciplines. Under the Risk Management Programme, 25 contingency plans have been drafted, outlining the responses to a range of potential issues and situations during the Games. PwC has significantly contributed to organising and conducting, together with Organizing Committee staff, a series of large-scale, inter-agency training drills involving various scenarios, and facility-based training sessions at 10 competition venues and 10 auxiliary sites, as well as rehearsals for the Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

PwC Russia has been providing services to the Organizing Committee of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XXI Paralympic Winter Games since late 2008. A partnership agreement was signed between the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee and PwC Russia in March 2011. As a Partner and the Official Professional Services Provider to the Games, PwC Russia supported the organisers of this major sporting event in such areas as integrated Games planning, HR, and risk management. PwC Russia has also advised the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee on financial planning and budgeting, taxation, and legal procedures.
