Sochi Airport Serves over 17,200 Olympic Guests on Peak Days
OREANDA-NEWS. Basel Aero, a part of Russia's largest industrial diversified group Basic Element, announces that Sochi International Airport, a main gateway of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games, served over 17,200 Olympic guests and participants on the peak days, Feb 6 and Feb 7.
Over 8,500 passengers came through Sochi International Airport on February 6, on the eve of the Olympics' kickoff. On the day of the opening ceremony, February 7, the gateway served over 8,700 people what is six times as much as on average days. There were no flight delays during the peak period.
Over the last two days the airport handled over 600 arriving and departing regular flights. The number of business jets arriving in Sochi on Feb 6-7 reached 175 while 145 private planes left the city.
Sochi Airport welcomed the flights from Stockholm, Paris, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Newark, Washington, Munich, Chicago, Oslo, Prague, Sofia, Vienna, Zurich, Zagreb, Tokyo, Kiev, London, Beijing, Milan, Nuremberg, Shanghai and other cities.
As the main gateway of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Sochi airport will facilitate the journeys of around 390,000 spectators attending the Games as well as more than 6,000 athletes.
The airport's main terminal is divided into three sectors for passenger flow optimization during the Games. Sector A serves Aeroflot and S7 airlines, Russian leading air carriers, while sectors B and C are be dedicated to other domestic carriers and international airlines respectively.
