OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2014. Stats-Secretary, Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia), Andrey Tsarikovsky, held negotiations with the Chairman of Italy’s competition authority, Giovanni Pitruzzella.

The parties discussed further measures under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of cooperation and emphasized the importance of intensifying bilateral cooperation between the two bodies, particularly, as part of joint investigations of violations of the competition law on relevant markets as well as considering transactions on the cross-border markets.

In 2012, at the Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN) in Rio-de-Janeiro, Russia’s and Italy’s competition authorities signed the Memorandum of Understanding in competition policy. The Memorandum provides for cooperation between the two bodies in exchanging non-confidential information, coordinating efforts, and organizing joint market investigations.

The Russian delegation also outlined the need to draft an “anti-cartel convention” and establishing an organization similar to the Interpol to combat cartel. The proposal was supported by the Italian competition authority.

In conclusion, Andrey Tsarikovsky thanked the Italian colleagues and expressed hope for further productive cooperation.
