NPO Saturn Develops Power Generating Plant with Efficiency of 50-52%
OREANDA-NEWS. A working group has been established with the aim of developing a combined cycle electric power generating plant having an efficiency of 50-52% based off a 110-MW gas turbine engine manufactured by NPO Saturn. The working group has included representatives of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, United Engine Corporation (UEC), NPO Saturn, Inter RAO, ROSNANO and TsNIITMASH.
It's worth noting that to date NPO Saturn is the only Russian manufacturer of high-power gas turbine power plants.
The gas turbine power plant GTE-110 produced by NPO Saturn is an industrial gas turbine power plant in the power range exceeding 110 MW (ISO 114,5 MW) with a well-mastered and fully-industrialized production cycle. The GTE-110 is designed for use at power plants in both single and co-generation cycles for generating electric (110 MW) and heat energy. The efficiency of the GTE-110 gas turbine under ISO 2413 conditions equals 36,5% and with the application of the district heating equipment (combined-cycle plant) reaches 52%.
The experts from NPO Saturn, Inter RAO and ROSNANO with the support of the leading R&D institutions in this field are working on a joint project of implementing design solutions aimed at increasing the reliability and turbine performance up to “F” class.
Besides, in the frame of a state contract titled “Development of baseline technologies, materials and equipment for combined-cycle plants derived from high-power gas turbine power plants” signed with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade for conducting specific R&D studies, NPO Saturn engineers conjointly with the leading power-engineering research institutions and organizations keep mastering new production processes applicable to high-power gas turbine engines.
According to Pavel Fetisov, NPO Saturn deputy CEO for industrial and marine gas turbine engine programs, “operation of the working group established in the frame of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, shows and proves the real interest of all the stakeholders, and as such will facilitate timely completion of the GTE-110 and its derived combined-cycle plant upgrade project.”
The NPO Saturn Research and Production Association (OJSC) is an engine-building company specialized in the design and development, production and after-market support of gas turbine engines for military and civil aviation, naval ships and power-generating plants and gas-pumping units. The association is part of the All-Russian public organization The Union of mechanical engineers of Russia whereby the regional branch is headed by I. N. Fedorov, NPO Saturn CEO.
NPO Saturn is part of United Engine Corporation (OJSC) and acts as the leader of the Civil Engines Division, a business unit of UEC founded on 09.10.2012 as a result of integration of the following companies: NPO Saturn (OJSC), Aviadvigatel (OJSC), PMZ (OJSC), Metallist-PM (CJSC), Energetik-PM (OJSC), REMOS-PM (CJSC), Motoservis-PM (CJSC) and Zheleznodorozhnik-PM (CJSC).
United Engine Corporation (OJSC) is a subsidiary of the OBORONPROM UIC (OJSC). The UEC structure integrates over 85% of Russia's leading companies specialized in the design and development, serial production and after-market support of gas turbine machinery as well as the key enterprises - the industry's integral players. One of UEC's prioritized fields of activity is the implementation of comprehensive programs of development of the companies in the industry by introducing new technologies meeting the world-class standards.
The OBORONPROM United Industrial Corporation (OJSC) is a multi-field machine-building group created in 2002. It is part of Rostec. The main fields of activity are helicopter building (the Russian Helicopters holding), engine building (the UEC holding) and other assets.
The Rostekhnologii State Corporation (Rostec) is a Russian corporation established in 2007 in order to facilitate the development, manufacturing and export of high-technology industrial products of military and civil purposes. Today it comprises over 663 companies, which form 8 military-industrial and 5 civil industry holdings. Rostec's subsidiaries are located in 60 regions of Russia and supply their products to over 70 countries worldwide. In 2012 revenues of the Corporation amounted to RUB 931 billion, net profits were RUB 38.5 billion and total taxation exceeded RUB 109 billion.
