OREANDA-NEWS. February 06, 2014. As per SWIFT’s year-end 2013 data, Sberbank has risen to the 39th position in its worldwide traffic ranking (Sberbank was ranked 47th in 2012). This is SWIFT’s main indicator of activity.

Sberbank was ranked 1st amongst all of SWIFT’s top 50 shareholding financial institutions with regards to traffic growth (+48%). In payments messages, Sberbank currently holds the 24th position worldwide. As far as overall country traffic is concerned, Russia has overtaken Canada, Singapore and Sweden in 2013, and now ranks 15th in the world (with a growth rate of 43%).

“Over the past two years, Sberbank, and Russia as a whole demonstrate a leading position in terms of growth in the International SWIFT Community”, - said Matthieu de Heering, Head of SWIFT for Russia and CIS. – “And this shows the qualitative development of the Russian financial market and its integration into the global financial industry.”

The SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications) cooperative is the leading worldwide association in the areas of financial telecommunications and services. Currently, SWIFT counts over ten thousand users in 212 countries amongst the world’s largest banks (including central/national banks) and other financial institutions (such as investment managers, brokerages, stock exchanges and central depositories). Over the past few years, more than 1000 leading corporates have also become SWIFT users (including General Electric, EADS, Microsoft, Lukoil and Rosneft).
