OREANDA-NEWS. February 06, 2014. According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways' network loaded 96.3 m tons of freight in January 2014, which is 1.2% higher than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in January 2014 increased compared to January 2013 by 7.1% to 191 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs during January 2014 increased by 9.1% and amounted to 247.6 billion ton-kms.

In January 2014, the railways shipped the following goods. The figures in brackets show the change compared to January 2013:

coal – 26.9 m tons (+0.6%);

coke– 0.964 m tons (-5.9%);

oil and petroleum products – 22.5 m tons (+2.7%);

iron and manganese ores – 8.9 m tons (+4%);

ferrous metals – 5.7 m tons (-3.8%);

ferrous metal scrap – 0.684 m tons (+2.8%);

chemicals and mineral fertilisers – 4.4 m tons (+14.7%);

cement – 1.5 m tons (-8.1%);

timber – 2.8 m tons (+10.2%);

grain – 0.995 m tons (+40.3%);

construction materials – 8.8 m tons (-9.2%);

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 1.6 m tons (-5.7%);

chemicals and soda – 2.3 m tons (-0.5%);

industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 2.4 m tons (+12.6%).
