High-strength Structural Steel in WISCO Reaches World-advanced Level

At present, the project, “Research and Development and Manufacturing Technology on HG980 High-strength Structural Steel” launched by research institute of WISCO passed the appraisal of technological achievement. It proves that the quality of this product rivals that of imported steel sheet of its kind to the top rank of worldwide.
HG980 high-strength structural steel with 1000MPa-level tensile strength is one of the products with the highest strength level from hot-rolled production line, WISCO. Besides the ultra-high strength, low temperature toughness and excellent malleability are both required in the features of HG980 high-strength structural steel. Because the effect of manufacturing technique closely influences the microstructure and performance of product, it causes huge difficulties to the production. Through in-depth study on the research and development theory of 1000MPa-level high-strength structural steel, and optimization of some manufacturing techniques, such as ultra pure steel smelting process, molten iron desulphurization, vacuum treatment, rolling and cooling control, etc., scientific researchers successfully stabilized the performance of product. In addition, the research and development theory of this product won three national invention patents and two technical know-hows.
Since the successful research and development, over 10,000 tons of HG980 high-strength structural steel have been produced accumulatively and good quality has been witnessed. They are mainly used to manufacture the structural members for loaders, large dump trucks, port conveyors, hydraulic supports for coal mining. According to the market feedback for years, 1000MPa-level HG980 high-strength structural steel of WISCO has enjoyed high reputation among the customers for its better quality in the same grade domestically, and it also has been recognized internationally to substitute the imported structural steel of its kind. With continuous development in the industry of engineering machinery, the constantly increased demand for high-strength structural steel will bring greater economic and social benefits to enterprises and society.
