OREANDA-NEWS. February 03, 2014. The Estonian Veterinary and Food Board has sent a detailed plan on bringing a number of exporters up to Russian standards, after Russian authorities imposed bans on the companies.

“In cooperation with the Dairy Association, the Association of Fisheries and the [affected] companies, we have compiled a substantial reply and action plan for each individual company. We have added documents on the five fish industry companies that prove that the needed requirements have already been met,” Ago Partel, the head of the Estonian Veterinary Board said on Thursday, adding that it now up to the Russian authorities to lift the ban.

Partel said that they have also made additions to the state monitoring system, so that the requirements of the customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are filled, in addition to those of the EU.

Estonian Minister of Agriculture Helir-Valdor Seeder met his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Fjodorov, in Berlin two weeks ago, who said the ban is of a technical nature and that they hope for a quick solution.

Russia imposed a ban on imports from five Estonian dairy and six fishing companies from January 9, this year, after they failed an inspection in October.
