Gross Agricultural Output in Moldova Grows by 38,3% in 2013
OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2014. It can be reminded that in 2012 due to the severe drought the volume of agricultural output has decreased by 22.3%.
As it was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, the growth of agricultural production in 2013 was caused by the increase in crop production - by 61.8%.
The volume of livestock production in 2013 grew by 0.7%. In 2013, the share of crop production in the total volume of agricultural output amounted to 72% (62% in 2012), the share livestock output - 28% (38% in 2012). According to NBS data, the increase in agricultural output was contributed by the growth in grain and leguminous harvest - 2,2 times - up to 2 million 660 thousand tons.
Thus, the gross harvest of wheat has doubled - up to 1 million 007 thousand tons, corn – by 2.5 times- up to 1,4 million tons, sunflower crop- by 66.6%- up to 499 thousand tons, sugar beet – by 59.5% - up to 936 thousand tons, soybean - by 34.4%- up to 65 thousand tons, potatoes - by 31.5% up to 239 thousand tons, vegetables - by 28.8%- up to 292 thousand tons, grapes - by 21%- up to 612 thousand tons, fruits, nuts and berries - by 11.5%- to 416 thousand tons. At the same time, tobacco production decreased by 23,6% - up to 2,2 thousand tons. In 2013 the growth of crop output was due to higher average yield of all agricultural crops.
Thus, the average corn yield in 2013 grew by 2.5 times, soy – by 1.9 times, sunflower and sugar beet - 1.8 times, wheat - 1.7 times, barley - 1.6 times, potato - by 1.3 times. In 2013, cattle and poultry breeding (in live weight) in comparison with 2012 has increased by 0,9% - up to 166 thousand tons. Production of cow milk increased by 1.4%- up to 527 thousand tons, while egg production fell by 0.8%- up to 617 million.
According to NBS, the general growth of animal production in 2013 amounted to 0.7% and was mainly due to the growth of cultivation of cattle and poultry at agriocultural facilities - 32.6%, and dairy output by 1.5% in the household and private farms. About 44% of the gross output of agriculture in Moldova in 2013 accounted for agricultural enterprises (35% in 2012).
In 2013, the agricultural enterprises of the country have mainly produced the sugar beet - 94%, rape - 92%), soy - 84%, sunflower -83%, tobacco 76%, grain and leguminous plants (except for maize) - 72%. At the same time, 85% of the total volume of potatoes and vegetables, 73% of grapes, 66% of corn, 97% of milk, 65% of meat, 60% of eggs was produced in home conditions and peasant farms.
