Campus of TUT Named among Best in World
OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2014. The campus of Tallinn University of Technology won a prestigious international competition. The jury of the competition “Science and Education”, taking place under the leadership of the Club of the Rectors of Europe, bringing together the heads of universities from 30 countries, highlighted the modernity, innovation, and close links to high-tech companies of the campus of TUT, as well as the attention it gives to learning opportunities for young families and the provision of childcare services.
“To reach among the best is recognition of many years of work during which we have established a world-class learning, research, business, and living environment under the pines of Mustamae District,” Rector Andres Keevallik said.
Approximately a total of 14,400 students study and a total of 1,100 researchers and professors as well as 162 enterprises with a total of 2,600 employees work in the campus, which also includes the Estonian IT College and Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol and which is situated in Mustamae District in Tallinn, Estonia.
In the category of campuses of the competition “Science and Education”, the jury evaluated the architecture and design of various university campuses, their environment, infrastructure, modern accommodation, sports and health facilities, catering, student activity, diversity and quality of leisure facilities, and the use of modern technologies.
A total of 17 works qualified for the final round of the competition. As a result of the jury and public Internet voting, a total of seven winning entries were chosen (http://www.summitofleaders.co.uk/en/winners-2), among which the jury, in turn, chose TUT. The decision was announced at a festive event in Oxford, England in late December.
