OREANDA-NEWS. Vale's CEO, Murilo Ferreira, visited Mozambique from January 11 to 13, together with other company leaders, to examine construction work on the Nacala Corridor, talk with workers in Maputo and meet external commitments. Highlights of his conversations with employees included the strategic topics of health and safety and Vale's investments in the African country.

In Maputo, Murilo began his talk by stating his desire for all employees to return to their homes safe and sound. The health and safety subject was one of the meeting's highlights. The CEO also recalled one of his visits to the country, when he attended the inauguration of the Pier 8 Coal Terminal.

Nacala Terminal: a new level of logistics

On January 12, the CEO also visited the construction site of the Nacala Logistics Corridor Port Terminal, where he stressed the importance of the project. “The Nacala-a-Velha port terminal represents a step change in the level of Vale's coal business,” he said. Murilo added that this will reinforce the project's importance in making a return on the significant investments the company has made in the country.

Benefits for Mozambique

The CEO also highlighted Vale's efforts to bring prosperity to the country. “Vale is here to stay. Our vision continues to be long term. We have been warmly welcomed in Mozambique and we want to see in each kilometre of the railway a new opportunity for the people and companies to be able to enjoy the benefits of our projects. We cannot create an initiative whereby we are victorious but the people of Mozambique do not benefit. We must contribute to the country's development.”
