Starting 2015 Moldova to Be Able to Import Electricity from Romania
OREANDA-NEWS. January 23, 2014. This was spoken about at a meeting between Premier of Moldova Iurie Leanca and Energy Minister of Romania Constantin Nita held in Chisinau to discuss interconnection of gas and power transportation networks of Moldova and Romania.
The officials discussed the course of constructing high-voltage lines between Vulcanesti and Isaccea and between Straseni, Ungheni and Iasi, which aims to broaden an opportunity of transporting power as well as the matter of equipping the lines with back-to-back converters.
Iurie Leanca and Constantin Nita also discussed an opportunity of financing the construction of the Back&Back station, whose budget amounts to about EUR 65 million, by Romania. Earlier, Minister of Economy of Moldova Valeriu Lazar announced Moldova's interest in importing power from Romania, where it is 15-20% cheaper than that bought from Moldovan Hydropower Plant and DTEK Vostokenergo, Ukraine.
As he said then, the technical obstacles for the import would be removed by equipping the Vulcanesti-Isaccea line with the back-to-back converter to synchronize technical parameters on both lines in order to broaden the inflow of power from Romania.
