IMF to Give Further Support to Moldova in Framework of New Program
OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2014. This was announced by Aasim Husain, Deputy Director of the International Monetary Fund's European Department and Max Alier, head of the IMF mission to Moldova at their meeting with Speaker of Parliament of Moldova Igor Corman.
At the meeting, the participants discussed matters of economic development of Moldova, the course of its modernization reforms and the outlook for signing a new aid program. Igor Corman sees cooperation with IMF very important for Moldova, since our country is interested in developing its various facets, including those concerning Moldova's co-operation with the European Union.
Max Alier emphasized IMF welcomes economic progress of Moldova as well as Moldova’s authorities’ endeavours to promote adequate economic policies that led to the economic growth in 2013. IMF representatives pointed out the willingness of the Fund to further Moldova in the framework of the new program to be oriented to three key goals: ensuring financial stability, preserving reasonable fiscal policies and consolidating the banking and financial sector.
According to the Deputy Director of the International Monetary Fund's European Department, the new program may be completed in 15 months. Moldova became a member of the International Monetary Fund on August 12, 1992.
The latest IMF's program for Moldova was completed in late April 2013 and our country was given the aid amounting to USD577.15 million approximately.
