OREANDA-NEWS. In 2013, PORTINVEST Holding transhipped 4,336m tonnes of cargo via terminals of Avlita Stevedoring Company, the same as in 2012. Metal transhipments by Avlita in 2013 increased to 2,923m tonnes year-on-year (+443,000 tonnes) owing to the commissioning of new storage facilities.

Grain transhipments (wheat, barley, corn) via Avlita terminal totaled 1,413m tonnes.

“Increased metal transhipments for Metinvest Holding in 2013 compensated for the low grain transhipments in the first half of the year,” noted Aleksandr Vasilchenko, Commercial Director of PORTINVEST Holding. “PORTINVEST Holding has been gradually expanding transhipments via Avlita berths since 2010, by making regular investments in equipment and infrastructure and improving internal logistics. We plan to further enlarge storage facilities and commission new equipment in 2014. This year PORTINVEST is also going to roll out investment projects to develop Mekenziyevy Gory railway station, purchase portal and mobile cranes with more carrying capacity, buy mobile loaders and build new storage facilities for metal and grain.”

In 2010 Avlita Stevedoring Company joined PORTINVEST Holding, which performs strategic management of SCM Group's port assets and implements investment projects in Ukraine's transport industry. Avlita Stevedoring Company is located at Sevastopol Bay and operates two terminals for metal and grain transhipment, which can handle up to 6.7m tonnes a year. The company's facilities tranship cargoes both for export and import from any type of vehicle.
