Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, today announced that its hydro generating stations at Bhira, Bhivpuri and Khopoli have received certification for the successful implementation of QMS: ISO 9001:2008, EMS: ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS :18001:2007 systems, by TUV NORD, Mumbai.

These certifications are awarded to organisations who have improved their health and safety performance and demonstrated sensitivity and responsiveness towards their customers, employees and the society at large. The company is committed towards facilitating a healthy working environment.

Tata Power strives to realise standards-based industry norms in management systems and has always ensured constant improvement and innovation across its operations. In sync with Tata Power's policy, the integrated management system (IMS) policy was signed on June 15, 2013. In less than four months, the hydro team successfully integrated all the three systems and completed the certification audit.

Tata Power commissioned its first hydro-electric power generating station at Khopoli in the year 1915 with an installed capacity of 40MW, which was subsequently upgraded to 72MW. The company commissioned its second hydro power station at Bhivpuri with an installed capacity of 40MW in 1922 and the third of 90MW capacity at Bhira in 1927. Both stations were upgraded to 72MW and 150MW respectively. The company has a total installed generation capacity of 1,106MW in the clean and renewable energy sector. Tata Power has plans of generating 26,000MW by 2020 and also managing a 20-25 percent contribution from "clean power sources.”
