Moldova, Hungary Cooperate on Air Quality Protection
OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2014. Environment Ministry hosted a delegation led by Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection and Conservation of Hungary Andras Racz. Hungarian Ambassador to Chisinau Matyas Szilagyi attended the meeting, during which the officials examined possibilities to boost the cooperation between the environmental institutions from both countries.
The Hungarian officials’ visit was part of a string of previous negotiations carried out by Deputy Environment Minister Valentina Tapis within a special international environmental cooperation and exchange forum, held in Budapest.
The parties agreed on the sought assistance to be focused on air quality management. The arguments presented by the Moldovan specialists referred to the urgent need to adjust the legal and normative framework for the air protection sector to the requirements by the European Air Quality directives of the Association Agreement with the EU.
At the same time, the parties examined the current and future air quality management system, reporting of emissions under the Convention on Long-range Trans-boundary Air Pollution, stage of preparation for the ratification of the Goteborg Protocol etc. At the same time, the Moldovan and Hungarian environmental institutions representatives identified opportunities to receive assistance to transpose the EU acquis on the protection of the atmosphere.
