Japanese Officials Visit Uzbekistan
OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2014. Members of a Japanese delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Member of the Parliament’s House of Representatives Yoko Kamikawa have met with Chairman of the State Committee for Communication, Information and Telecommunication Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan Hurshid Mirzohidov.
It was stressed in particular during the negotiations that ties between Uzbekistan and Japan have been dynamically advancing across many spheres, including in the filed of information and communication technologies, an important normative foundation for which is served by agreements reached during highest-level meetings between the two nations.
Relations between Uzbekistan and Japan have been consistently developing built on the Joint Declaration on Friendship, Strategic Partnership and Cooperation signed in 2002. Notably, the scales of interaction in the sector of information technologies and telecommunications have been expanding.
The Integrated Program on the Development of National Information and Communications System of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2013-2020 approved by the Resolution of President Islam Karimov from 27 June 2013, outlines important tasks dedicated to the accelerated development of information resources and sectors, extensive introduction of information and communication technologies in all areas of government and management, the promotion of the system of electronic government and the perfection of telecommunications networks. The resolution of the head of our state “On Measures to Further Consolidate the Encouragement of Domestic Software Developers” signed 20 September 2013 serves as an important factor in supporting the software developers and bolstering the evolution of information and communication technologies.
The guests were familiarized with the wide-ranging reforms underway in our country to spearhead the advancement of information technologies and telecommunications networks and consolidation of international cooperation on this front.
“The wide-scale reforms in progress in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to promote information and communication technologies deserve a high appraisal,” Yoko Kamikawa said. “It is noteworthy that the Integrated Program on the Development of National Information and Communications System has been worked out and is being implemented steadily. Companies from Japan have been energetic in the introduction of digital television in Uzbekistan. We advocate further consolidation of such interaction, including in the important of projects designed to introduce information and communication technologies in the spheres of agriculture and water management, environmental security, healthcare and prevention of emergency situations.”
The talks also served for the two sides to exchange views on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the telecommunications sphere, the further enhancement of interaction in the area of information and communication technologies and training specialists with their eventual retraining.
The State Committee for Communication, Information and Telecommunication Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan signed a Memorandum on Cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies.
Members of the Japanese delegation held talks later the day at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, the Ministry of healthcare of the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. Issues concerning the further development of bilateral cooperation were addressed during these meetings.
