Cargill Acquires 5 % Stake in UkrLandFarming
OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2014. Cargill, the US-based largest world’s agriculture trading group, has acquired 5% stake of the Ukraine’s largest agricultural holding UkrLandFarming, owned by Oleg Bakhmatyuk, who owns also 86.78 % of shares of JSC " VAB Bank".
According to Oleg Bakhmatyuk, Cargill and UkrLandFarming operates in the same market - the sector ensuring global food security.
"The synergy of two powerful players will significantly improve the possibilities and prospects of agriculture and the food industry worldwide. This is an important step in the development of export and investment potential not only for ULF, but for Ukraine as a whole. The new phase of cooperation allows to develop our relationship opening new mutually profitable opportunities for joint business. I'm sure that it 's just the beginning of the great and successful joint way, "- said Mr. Bakhmatyuk .
The Financial Times notes that “The deal, for 5 per cent of the holding, boosts Cargill’s already strong trading presence in one of the world’s most promising agriculture commodity producers”.
UkrLandFarming PLC is the largest agricultural producer in Ukraine, with a land bank of 670 thousands of hectares. Holding is engaged in growing crops and seed, production of shell eggs and egg products (Avangardco IPL), sugar, cattle and meat production, distribution of agricultural equipment and machinery.
