OREANDA-NEWS. January 17, 2014. The first high quality tinplate coil from WISCO-NIPPON STEEL(Wuhan) Tinplate Co. ,Ltd, weighing about 7 tons, rolled off the production line.

Tinplate has excellent properties in corrosion resistance, strength, hardness, formability, and weld ability. It is non-toxic and tasteless and could prevent iron dissolving into the commodities to be packaged. Furthermore, it could be used for printing pictures to prettify commodities for its beautiful metallic luster. Tinplate is mainly used in food cans industry and also used as packaging materials for chemical paints, oils, pharmaceutical, etc.

Along with the improvement of national economic well-being , there were increasing demand for tinplate used for food cans and beverage cans. Some experts predicted that the demand will total 3.7 million tons in 2015 with annual average growth rate of 8% and there will be great demand in domestic and neighboring markets. WISCO-NIPPON STEEL (Wuhan) Tinplate Co. ,Ltd will mainly take aim at high-end market.

WISCO regarded the cooperation with NIPPON STEEL & SUMITOMO METAL as the structural adjustment focusing on mutual benefits and common progress and also the important measures to cope with the decline in current steel industry. WISCO also believed that through the cooperation, advanced technologies and management experience in tinplate production from NIPPON STEEL and rich human resources and sound marketing channels from WISCO could be given into full play and domestic high-end market of canned foods and beverage cans could get expanded. The cooperation between the two parties was of great significance to promote core competitiveness and achieve win-win results.

WISCO-NIPPON STEEL (Wuhan) Tinplate Co. ,Ltd was formally established in Wuhan on November of 2011. The production equipments of this company included pickling cold rolling line with annual production capacity of 0.8 million tons, continuous annealing line with annual production capacity of 0.8 million tons as well as tinning line with annual production capacity of 0.4 million tons. WISCO and  NIPPON STEEL & SUMITOMO METAL invested together 1.85 billion RMB, each side owned 50% of the joint venture.
