SK Hynix Completed Mass Production System of 16 Nano NAND Flash
OREANDA-NEWS. SK hynix announced that the company began the mass production of 16 nano 64Gb MLC NAND flash, which is the industry's first micro-process.
After the world's first mass production of 1G 16 nano product in June 2013, SK hynix reduced the chip size to improve cost competitiveness and began the mass production of the 2G product.
In addition, SK hynix completed the development of the largest MLC single chip 128Gb (16 GB) product, which is based on the peculiarity and creditworthiness of the 16 nano MLC NAND flash product. This product will begin mass production in the early 2014.
Generally, the thinner process technology causes the more frequent interferences among cells occur, but SK hynix applied up-to-date air-gap technology to overcome the interferences among the cells. The air-gap technology builds insulation shield with vacuum holes (air) between circuits not with insulating substances.
Kim Jin Woong, President of SK hynix FlashTech Development Division, said, “After the world's first development and mass production of industry's thinnest 16 nano technology, we were able to complete the high capacity NAND flash line-up by developing 128Gg MLC product. We will actively respond to the customers' demand through NAND flash products with high reliability and endurance in data usage.”
Meanwhile, SK hynix is planning to reinforce its competitiveness of the NAND flash solution by developing TLC and 3D NAND flash products.
