Statoil Doesn’t Accept Fine for Lack of Remote Measurement
OREANDA-NEWS. Statoil has decided not to accept a fine of NOK 10 million imposed by the public prosecutor for Rogaland county on 18 October 2013, in connection with leakage from an injection well on the North Sea Veslefrikk field in the period 2002–2009.
The fine is based on an alleged failure by Statoil to monitor its own activity through remote measurement to detect pollution and take required action.
"After a thorough evaluation we have decided not to accept this fine, because we cannot see that we, based on the case documents, have breached regulations," says Oystein Arvid Haland, senior vice president for the operations North Sea West cluster in Statoil.
