Project of Artificial Island of Hong Kong-Macao Bridge Winds Up
OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2013. After nearly four years of painstaking efforts, the reclamation project of the artificial island of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge for Zhuhai and Macao ports, undertaken by the consortium of CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. and CCCC Tianjin Dredging Co., Ltd. and the consortium of CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. and CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Co., Ltd., supervised by CCCC Fourth Harbor Consultants Co., Ltd., wound up, bringing the project of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge into the new stage of island port construction.
With a total investment of 2.386 billion yuan, the project broke ground in December 2009 as the first commenced and completed project of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Located in the offshore waters of Gongbei Bay, Zhuhai, with a reclamation area of 208.87 hectares, the project formed a land area the size of 300 football pitches and measuring 6 kilometers in perimeter. During the construction, the project team overcame various hardships like typhoon and eventually accomplished "zero accident, zero pollution and zero casualty" with the coordination and concerted efforts of all sides.
According to sources, the artificial island for Zhuhai and Macao ports is the center connecting the main works of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Zhuhai and Macao. Stretching 930-960 meters from west to east and 1,930 meters from north to south, with a completed elevation of 4.8 meters, the formed island can resist tide once 300 years at Pearl River Estuary. After the bridge is built up, both Zhuhai and Macao ports will be located on the "artificial island" formed through reclamation, and the island will become a general operation center integrating functions such as transportation, management, service, rescue and sightseeing.
