SUEK Employees Transfer over RUR20m to Far East Flood Victims
OREANDA-NEWS. In 2013, five areas of the Russian Far East were concurrently overrun by a devastating deluge flooding 12,000 houses that used to be homes for almost 170,000 people.
The Siberian Coal Energy Company undertook a vital humanitarian mission. In autumn, the miners shipped fuel required for the heating season to the Far East regions on terms favorable for the recipients, with a delay of payment granted. SUEK coal helped the disaster victims to avoid a state of emergency.
Besides, in excess of 25,000 employees from SUEK operations contributed their one-day wages to the funds collected for the benefit of the adversely affected Far East residents. Specifically, there were 13,245 contributors in the Kemerovo Region; 3,755 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory; 2,942 in Khakassia; 2,736 in the Russian Far East; 1,352 in Zabaikalye; 1,284 in Buryatia; 230 in Moscow. The resultant funds jointly amassed by SUEK employees exceeded RUR20 million. The collections, as agreed with the Khabarovsk Territory administration, will be earmarked for restoration of a number of residential and social facilities. The list of these facilities will be shortly made public.
“Help and solidarity, honor and dignity are inalienable characteristics of Russian miners,” observed SUEK CEO Vladimir Rashevsky.
