OREANDA-NEWS. Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel-casting and mining companies, increased its share in KAMAZ purchases in 2013 by eight points, year-over-year.
Preliminary results of activities for 2013 and cooperation prospects for 2014 were considered at a coordination council of OAO Severstal and OJSC KAMAZ which took place in Naberezhnye Chelny.

The parties discussed issues relating to development of new high-strength steel grades. In 2013, Severstal started delivering flat bars for frame rail production through Severstal SMC Kolpino (a member of the division Severstal Russian Steel) to the city of Naberezhnye Chelny. The companies made a bargain to develop and approve a program of technical cooperation in order to master the development of advanced innovative steel grades in 2014-2015.

The companies considered subsequent measures for efficiency improvement of deliveries and cooperation at the coordination council. It should be recalled that last year the partners managed to eliminate waste of time in the logistics network Severstal – RZD – KAMAZ. As a result, the total period of “door-to-door” deliveries of Cherepovets metal-roll to KAMAZ (Naberezhnye Chelny) halved.

The parties decided to consider an issue on establishment of consignment warehouses in Naberezhnye Chelny and Neftekamsk on industrial grounds of KAMAZ and NEFAZ, and also approve the main parameters of metal-roll delivery in accordance with the Kanban system.
“The project realized jointly with KAMAZ gave us an opportunity to expand the sphere of interaction between the companies and reach a new level of relations. The coordination council decided to continue jointly solving problems of optimization of deliveries of Cherepovets metal-roll to KAMAZ, including those under a current tripartite agreement of the companies Severstal, KAMAZ and RZD,” Dmitry Goroshkov, Director of Marketing and Sales of the division Severstal Russian Steel, said.

“Our enterprises are focused on long-term cooperation. One should realize that improvement of quality, reliability of vehicles is a result of long-time joint work. Development and introduction of advanced steel grades, development and implementation of new logistic schemes – all this contributes to a higher quality and lower costs. As a result, we jointly receive a competitive end product – a truck produced by OJSC KAMAZ of a high quality and at a reasonable price,” Ildus Khabibullin, Director of the Department for Purchasing of Metals and Materials at the Purchasing Center of OJSC KAMAZ.
