E-world 2014: Telekom Kit for Smart Metering
OREANDA-NEWS. Deutsche Telekom will be presenting a new modular solution for smart metering - from reading meters to creating invoices - at E-world in Essen from February 11 to 13. The solutions are modular and available both individually and in combination at a fixed monthly rate. They meet the requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security, such as the privacy profile or the IT-Grundschutz Catalogues. Test installations will be provided as soon as the first smart meter gateway hardware components are available. Telekom is making use of the experience gained from 30,000 secure smart metering systems installed in Germany and the expertise of IT Security.
"We offer a simple, cost-effective and secure modular system for the entire process chain, from the meter to the invoice," says Dr. Frank Schmidt, the new head of the Energy business area at Deutsche Telekom. "The kit is aimed not only at energy providers but also companies that use the kit to put together their own offers - such as the energy provider BS Energy in Braunschweig just recently with a complete smart metering package which is of particular interest for smaller public utilities. If we manage to implement smart metering on scalable IT platforms for a large number of energy providers, we will be able roll out smart metering at attractive costs."
The modules for smart metering comprise a gateway administration service, the installation of meters and gateways, the communication link, a meter data management system and an enhanced industry solution for energy providers based on SAP. Deutsche Telekom is the first company worldwide to offer this industry solution as "software as a service", including software licenses.
In addition, Deutsche Telekom will be showing security solutions, energy efficiency for utilities, the smart home platform QIVICON for energy providers and installation services for charging stations for electric vehicles on stand 102 in hall 7.
