Kazakh PM, Korean Deputy PM Discuss Bilateral Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. December 16, 2013. In the course of his official visit to the Republic of Korea, Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov met with Korean Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Strategy and Finance Hyun Oh-seok.
During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation. The sides also discussed prospects for mutually beneficial projects in various sectors of the economy. In particular, they talked about projects in transport engineering, in the field of renewable energy, high technology, light industry and other industries, in which Korean business actively participates.
Akhmetov noted the dynamism of trade and economic cooperation, and stressed the need to further strengthen and expand mutually beneficial ties.
"Kazakhstan is committed to sustainable growth through accelerated industrial-innovative development. In this context, we are interested in mutually beneficial investment and technological cooperation with Korea," the Prime Minister said.
Moreover, Akhmetov expressed interest in studying the Korean experience in holding the international specialized exhibition EXPO 2012 in Yeosu and invited Korean companies to participate in EXPO 2017 in Astana.
A number of bilateral documents was signed after the meeting. These are an agreement between the two governments on cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs matters, a memorandum of understanding between JSC "Samruk-Energo" and Hyundai Corporation, a memorandum of understanding between the Chambers of Commerce of Kazakhstan and Korea, a memorandum of understanding between LLP "Samruk-Green Energy" and a subsidiary of Hyundai Corporation.
