OREANDA-NEWS. December 16, 2013. The Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) Igor Artemiev made a statement at a press-conference “Introducing the Code of Conduct of car manufacturers and distributors” on the issues of developing self-regulation of the car market. He said that introducing the Code of Conduct would create transparent and non-discriminatory rules for interactions of car manufacturers and distributors with dealers and independent service stations, and would reduce the costs of spare parts and servicing cars for consumers.

The Code of Conduct of car manufacturers and distributors on the markets of sales of new cars and spare parts to them was drafted by the Association of European Business together with FAS in order to prevent discrimination in sales of cars and spare parts.

According to the Head of FAS, the document formalized the main principles of interaction between car manufacturers and distributors with dealers and independent service stations.

“We expect that the rules of the game on the market will become more transparent with the Code coming into force”, emphasized Igor Artemiev.

The Head of FAS pointed out that devising the Code of conduct “is better than legislative regulation since it is based on voluntary involvement”. Igor Artemiev expressed hope that other companies on other markets in Russia will follow the example of car manufacturers.
