Belaruskali Resumes Operation of Two Potash Mines
OREANDA-NEWS. One of the world’s largest manufacturers of potash fertilizers Belaruskali (based in Soligorsk, Minsk Region) has resumed the operation of all four potash mines, Belaruskali CEO Valeri Kiriyenko told.
It became known in late August that Belaruskali suspended the operation of two potash mines under the pretext of repair works. In late July Russia’s Uralkali would quit cooperation with Belaruskali and withdraw from the potash export cartel. Furthermore, Uralkali announced a change in its marketing strategy, which is now based on the volume-over-price principle. As a result of the divorce, potash prices on the global market plunged from USD 400 to less than USD 300 per tonne and Belarus had trouble selling its potash to overseas customers.
All four mines has been operating since late November, Kiriyenko informed. All miners are now working full time.
Asked about the prospects of increasing potash output, the official said it would all depend on fertilizer sales.
