OREANDA-NEWS. The first gas pumping unit (GPU) is installed on Russkaya CS which is the most powerful compressor station in the world.

Mikhail Levchenkov, Director General of Gazprom Invest LLC, Vadim Lukoyanov, Deputy Head of the Krasnodar Territory Administration and Minister for Natural Resources of the Krasnodar Territory, Andrey Baturin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of LLC "STROYGAZMONTAZH", Vladimir Belyakov, General Director of JSC "Lengazspetsstroy" took part in the ceremony dedicated to the GPU installation.

“A gas pumping unit is the heart of any compressor station. 14 units of this type with the total capacity of 448 MW will be installed there, on Russkaya CS. It will become the most powerful compressor station in the world. The installation is performed in strict accordance with the schedule,” Mikhail Levchenkov, Director General of Gazprom Invest LLC, said.

Vadim Lukoyanov, Minister for Natural Resources of the Krasnodar Territory, noticed that the implementation of the Southern Corridor project makes it possible to continue the gas supply system development of the entire region, particularly, to devise technical capabilities for the gas supply system development of Novorossiysk, Anapa, the Temruyuk District, the Tuapse District and the central part of the Krasnodar Territory.

Russkaya CS is the terminal point of the Southern Corridor and the initial point of South Stream. The station design capacity will ensure the gas pressure up to 28.45 MPa. It enables to transmit natural gas without additional technical facilities to the distance of 900 km. The station is planned to be commissioned in 2016.
