OREANDA-NEWS. November 28, 2013. His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the State of Qatar, together with H.E. Ahmad bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister, and H.E. Saleh Mohammad Al-Nabit, Minister of Development Planning and Statistics, visited earlier today the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Their Excellencies were received at the shipyard by H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, accompanied by Eng. Abdullah Fadhalah Al Sulaiti, Managing Director of Nakilat, and Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Al-Muftah, Director of Qatar Petroleum’s Industrial Cities, together with a number of senior officials from QP and Nakilat.

During the visit, Their Excellencies attended a presentation delivered by the Department of Industrial Development from the Ministry of Energy and Industry. The presentation highlighted the Ministry‘s activities and achievements. It also gave a brief on the major indicators in the industry sector, mainly the industrial facilities, volume of the industrial investments, the contribution of the industry sector in local production, and the Ministry’s role in achieving the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2011-2016.

This was followed by a presentation from Eng. Abdullah Fadhalah Al Sulaiti, Managing Director of Nakilat. The presentation provided an update on the latest activities of Nakilat and its shipyard joint ventures, ship repairer Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) and shipbuilder Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ). The two presentations included a question-and-answer session to respond to the enquiries of the attendees.

H.E. the Prime Minister, accompanied by Their Excellencies and the other guests, then toured the state-of-the-art facilities of Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard for more than an hour, during which they were briefed with technical explanations on the shipyard’s facilities and the nature of the activities performed there.

The tour included the facilities for small ship repair and maintenance, the workshop for fabrication and other jobs related to large and medium ships’ repair and maintenance. As part of the tour, the guests also visited Dry Yard 1, which included facilities for making high-value small ships, including coast guards boats, ships, military cruisers and tug boats.  The tour also included the renovation and maintenance of luxury yachts in the yard, in addition to N-KOM’s dry yard, which is big enough to accommodate the world’s largest LNG carrier, the Q-Max, and NDSQ’s high-tech climate-controlled fit-out hall measuring 180 meters long x 70 meters wide.
